Most recent mesothelioma survival rates

Being diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma is a shock for the patient and all the people around him/her. It is a rough type of cancer that, voluntarily or not, requires preparations for unfortunate events. The mesothelioma survival rates confirm that statement. Namely, around 55% of the patients diagnosed with mesothelioma live longer than 6 months. Around 35% live longer than a year and only 9% of the patients live longer than 5 years.

Mesothelioma prognosis

The likely outcome of mesothelioma is usually not so positive. As stated previously, the mesothelioma survival rates are far from favorable for the patients. However, there are several factors that affect the way this disease spreads and acts during different cancer stages.

Some of the factors the mesothelioma prognosis depends on, apart from the stage of the cancer, are the cell type, gender, and age of the patient. These factors are beyond the patient’s control and cannot be modified in any way. There are several ways, however, that patients could apply to their own cases and affect positively the way the disease affects the body. They include the overall healthy lifestyle and following strictly the advice of specific specialists in the field.

The reason of low mesothelioma survival rates

Mesothelioma affects the thin membrane that has a significant role in the human body. It protects the most important organs, including the heart, lungs, and abdomen. Patients can treat this type of cancer with surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Mesothelioma survival rates are not very encouraging for the patients. They are one way to determine the average survival time of the patient based on the recent statistics. Although cancer as a whole sounds scary, mesothelioma particularly is very rare, which is why the survival rates are usually lower in comparison with other cancer types.

Every patient should take some time to think of the proper therapy and also consider all the possible legal procedures that should be completed in case of an unfortunate event.
